I’ve found a new love for photographing families with more than three kids.  I feel like it really fuels my style of photography.  I love scenes that are a bit more complex and interesting and larger families for sure fit the bill.

Working with the Romero family was such a treat!  Their kids are absolutely adorable and each one has a completely different personality. I also love seeing the birth order and how they handle life.  The littlest was for sure just along for the ride while the oldest took charge.

For this session, I suggested we do an at home session.  When you have more than 1-2 kids to look after under the age of 5-6 years old, it can be harder for the parents to relax on location.

As I’ve been changing the way I run my portrait business, its become more apparent to me how important it is to mentally prepare families for the session.  For this session, I told the family to just let the kids play and I will let them know if I need something from them.  I gently guided them with suggestions to get us started but after about 15 minutes, the kids took over.  They were playing hockey and then picking oranges.  And somehow during this time we had a few moments to snuggle with Mom and Dad.

This session made me realize how important it is to just let your kids be kids during a lifestyle session and to trust that your photographer will guide you through the session.
