When I first moved to Los Angeles, I found this as a good opportunity to make changes to my family photography aspect of my business. For so many years, I just kept doing the same things. It’s hard to change when you have repeat clients. So the first thing I did after unpacking all our stuff with a toddler running around was find a nanny…..hahah! But then I started looking for clients to experiment some of my new ideas.
I recently worked with the snow family to do one of my first strictly lifestyle family sessions. And wow, it was so fun! I asked the family to do their best to be themselves and to plan an activity. We ended up having a ton of rain that week in Los Angeles so they decided it would be best to do something sort of cozy; cookie baking and pajamas. Of course cookie baking turned in to tons of spills, tears, and laughs followed by dad finishing the cookies while everyone ate chocolate chips and jumped on the bed.
This session was absolutely adorable. It was everything you would imagine a Saturday morning with your children. I love capturing moments that we will truly treasure several years to come. They aren’t just people posing in wonderful outfits with a beautiful background, they are a family being themselves and sharing moments. Something we will one day miss but can always treasure in a photograph.
Something I always find myself doing is holding the phone and taking photos and videos during these special times and not always fully enjoying myself. What I loved about this session is that it also offered the parents a chance to sit back and just be with their kids. And appreciate everything about what was happening in that moment.
