I had so much fun photographing the Russel family this month! It was my first time working with this family and we connected so quickly. When I do an extended family shoot, not only do we focus on the large group. But each smaller family is able to do their own short session. It was really nice getting to photograph different groupings of people within the same family. It lead to a lot of fun creative shots! My favorite part is that everyone will walk away with nice memories of their loved ones.

The whole family got together for the first time in a long time to do this shoot, so they were all really excited. We decided to have the shoot in Palisades Park in Santa Monica. I like this location a lot because there is a lot of variety within a small area. The park has nice views of West LA, Malibu, and the ocean, and it’s never too crowded. This location is a great option to have LA views without having to walk on the sand, which is helpful for families with kids and small babies.

The Russel’s extended family came into town from Chicago and stayed at an AirBnB in Venice, so it was a convenient park for everybody access. I love working with large families, there is always a lot going on to capture! These images will be nice memories for everyone to look back on and remember when all the cousins were little! And it will be a great memento once the trip is over and everyone is home.
