This Santa Monica proposal was tons of fun, although it wasn’t exactly the surprise Blake had planned! Blake and Ashley had been together since their high school prom, which was really cute. Blake was super nervous about surprising Ashley with his proposal, and he called me a month and a half before the planned date to make sure every detail was perfect. He knew he wanted to propose right before a staycation and small party celebrating with friends and family at Shutters on the Beach, a luxury hotel in Santa Monica.
We chatted and decided a beachside Santa Monica proposal during sunset would be romantic. I helped him pick the perfect spot and time of day to propose. The lighting was beautiful and we picked a private spot on the sand. The plan involved proposing to Ashley on a picnic blanket by the beach, and then popping champagne to celebrate! I arrived before him to lay out the blanket and get the champagne and glasses ready for their arrival.
Everything went according to plan, and Ashley said yes! After the champagne toast, Ashley revealed that Blake had been so nervous about planning the proposal that he blew the surprise almost immediately. She had caught him getting her ring size! Luckily, Ashley didn’t care and thought it was funny and cute. Oh well! He did his best. I think knowing someone as long as Ashley and Blake have known each other definitely makes the surprise element of the proposal more challenging! Either way, it was adorable and they were both happy to celebrate being newly engaged.
