I work with the Kim Family on a frequent basis and they are one of my favorite clients to photograph. For their last session, we chose to do a family photography session at LACMA. Over the years, I have developed a really positive client relationship with them. We have become friends and I feel like I know their whole family really well. The girls are polar opposites both have strong personalities. We always joke that their younger daughter cries at the beginning of every photoshoot, but she eventually has fun!
This Spring, I took them to the Urban Light exhibit at LACMA. Afterwards, we went to the La Brea Tar Pits. The Kims just moved from Playa Vista to Beverly Hills, so I chose a location close to their new home to celebrate the new neighborhood. We had a blast running around the LACMA lights and climbing trees at the Tar Pits!
The secret to working with families with young children is getting them on board with what you’re asking them to do. I like to mix in a variety of candid, fun moments with portraits to make it a positive experience for the whole family. After all, it should be fun! It’s really important to me that my clients walk away feeling good about the shoot. I don’t like my sessions to feel stressful for the families. When all is said and done, they’re going to look back at the photos and remember their experience. I want it to be a good memory for them all. It really helps in developing a positive client relationship.
