I love El Matador Beach proposals!! I photographed my first proposal about 5 years ago and have done so many since. Proposals are not always straightforward. You can’t be running 5 minutes late. And you can’t call the couple when you show up. Everything has to be planned out well beforehand.
When someone decides to book me for a proposal, we first of all come up with a date, time, and location. From here, I will equip them with a timeline and specific instructions. When planning, I am very specific on where to enter and will provide them with a map. I have the couple text me before they arrive and let me know what they are wearing plus a picture. I always make sure they know to make eye contact with me to make sure we see each other. So far every proposal I have helped plan has gone perfectly!
Dmitry and Jamie were in the middle of a road trip from Seattle to San Diego when Dmitry decided to propose in Los Angeles. After doing a little research, Dmitry decided that this beach was the perfect spot. One thing I love about this beach is that it’s obviously beautiful but it also only has one entrance, which makes it ideal for an easy meet-up.
Proposal photography is sort of a new concept. At first I wasn’t sure how necessary it was to photograph. But then after a few proposals, it became obvious how important this moment really was. Unlike an engagement session, this is a genuine moment that is not manufactured by the photographer. It really is a special occasion to have a photographer.
